Anthony Delia Takes On 72km Kayaking Challenge Around Malta In Aid Of Ethiopian Children

St. Paul’s Bay Councillor Anthony Delia along with colleague Derome Agius is embarking on a 72 kilometre kayaking voyage around Malta in order to collect donations to help build a school in Ethiopia.
In collaboration with Sigma Foundation, Delia will be collecting funds to help build a school to promote female development and education in Bonga, Ethiopia. Other ongoing projects by The Sigma Foundation might also benefit from these donations.
The school is focused on IT, culinary skills, hairdressing, sewing and embroidery and similar life-skills. It is open to both men and women aged 20 to 45 but aiming at empowering women, increasing employment and alleviating the extreme poverty in the area.
Delia is the brother of former opposition leader Adrian Delia and is a councillor in St. Paul’s Bay. He has been inspired by Sigma’s work and feels that he wants to contribute something to their magnificent effort.
Speaking to Lovin Malta, Delia confessed that he is no seasoned Kayaker and is undergoing a learning process.
“I didn’t realise you needed a medic to accompany you on a challenge like this,” he laughed. “Luckily Alpha Medical have offered a sponsorship so they can accompany me.”
Delia also said he didn’t realise “that mine is a leisure kayak and is heavier and harder to row and manoeuvre than a racing kayak” – but he doesn’t intend for that to stop him either.
“As most of you already know Derome Agius and myself are going to paddle round Malta this July for fundraising. The start and finish will probably be from Riviera Hotel, Marfa starting at around 7.30am, on the 8th, 15th or on the 22nd.”
“It all depends on the weather forecast. I need your support to help these children in need. Kayakers are all welcome to join at the start for a few kilometres, but not for all round Malta, because of the logistics of the event.”
“Being a charity event all participants can join against a small donation. Being part of this event will give a future to the less fortunate Children.”
“Together we can do all the difference.”
The journey is calculated to take approximately 20 hours.
