‘Fit For A Kingfish’: Maltese NGO Marks World Toilet Day With Photos Of Countless ‘Porcelain Thrones’ Found Under The Sea
Today is World Toilet Day… but one of Malta’s most hardworking NGOs is celebrating it in a slightly different way.
“We’re amazed at the number of toilets we find during our cleanups—porcelain thrones resting on the seafloor,” local waste management and clean-up organisation Żibel wrote this morning. “Even though they might be fit for a kingfish, toilets don’t belong in our oceans—and we’re here to help send them back where they belong!”
In the Instagram post, Żibel shared a number of photos of the toilets, all of varying shapes and sizes, that they’ve recovered from the depths of the Maltese Mediterranean as part of their countless intense clean-ups.
“This day reminds us that proper waste disposal matters—not just for marine life but for everyone’s health and sanitation,” the group finished. “Let’s keep our seas clear and our communities safe!”
