Heartwarming Facebook Post Thanks Maltese Traffic Police Officers Stuck In This Week’s Storm

A post on popular Facebook forum The Salott made the rounds this morning for its heartwarming message among news of a hold-up in Sliema and arguments on Malta’s property bubble.

In what quickly turned out to be the third spell of heavy rain this week, Thursday morning’s storm saw various police officers take to the streets around Malta to help the flow of traffic, and a person who happened to be in one of the country’s busiest areas during rush hour took to Facebook to post about it.

“Thank you sir, whoever you are, for directing traffic in this storm and in the middle of the road,” the post read. “It’s a tad shameful that in this country, in the heavy rain, police officers still use motorcycles”.

The post got a staggering positive response, gathering over 1,500 reactions in just a couple of hours. It also got nearly 100 comments, with dozens of people congratulating the police officer in the photo and even other officers who had similar duties during the storm.

“This morning, there were two female officers near the Portomaso roundabout who were also soaking wet,” one comment said. “I offered them my umbrella but they told me they couldn’t accept it”.

“This wasn’t the only police officer who got drenched this morning,” another commented. Officers stationed in front of various schools, just as the Sliema Primary and a Birkirkara school were also mentioned. “The place where he stands is always flooded when it pours like this,” a comment continued.

While another person also mentioned other jobs such as Transport Malta workers who need to be thanked for their service, one person even thanked the person who actually posted the photo. “All I hear anymore is complaining and criticising,” the comment read.

We’d like to take this opportunity to thank the police officers and other people who tirelessly work on Malta’s streets, be it during a blistering heatwave, or a stormy spell of heavy rainfall.
