Indian Woman Speaks Fluent Maltese After Decade Living On The Island

Indian woman Rhythm Garg arrived in Malta 10 years ago – and made it her mission to learn the Maltese language.
”Everyone includes me. I do not feel that I am being excluded here….I came here 10 years ago and started learning Maltese since I was young,” Garg told TVM Malta whilst speaking in Maltese.
Garg is an example of successful integration into the island, and she discussed her experience living in Malta and how she assimilated to the Maltese language, during an interview she gave during the Holi Festival celebration.
Holi is a two-day Hindu festival of colours, celebrated in Spring in certain Indian regions – the festival is meant to symbolise a new chapter in one’s life.
A bonfire is lit up on the first day, and people celebrate the triumphing of good triumphing over evil. The second day is the more recognised part of the festival – perfumed colourful powder called gulal is thrown in the air and onto others.

”We threw colourful powder at each other… as one can see you don’t have to be the same skin colour, therefore when you throw the colourful powder, you cannot identify the other person, then you can play and include everyone,” Garg continued in the interview.
Culture Minister Owen Bonnici attended the Holi Festival celebrations that happened in Malta, as he expressed his appreciation of two cultures coming together to strengthen the unity between the Maltese and Indians.
