Malta Is Discussing Abortion, And This Is What People Are Actually Saying

After the Women’s Rights Foundation emerged with recommendations for the legalisation of abortion in front of Parliament recently, everyone from the church to the man in the street is having their say. The views are varied in a changing Malta that is torn between religious morality and a modern European perspective.
Two women’s rights organisations have come out as pro-choice
And a few women have spoken up publicly
Even though others called out the shaming of women who do so
Some men have publicly given their support to the pro-choice camp
Both major political party leaders reiterated their anti-abortion stance
Calling out the “false moralism” that he saw this week, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said he had always been and remained against abortion. He said he was content to see a discussion about the topic, just as he was content to see discussions on other “uncomfortable” issues, like IVF and rent regulation.
