Take The Chance To Impress Thousands Of Maltese Students On Campus
Many people’s fondest memories of the famous University of Malta Quadrangle (i.e. the pjazza) are those days when the whole square came to life with musical performances and people bumping into all the acquaintances they know.
This year, the canteen’s Food Faculty is teaming up with KSU and Trackage Scheme to not only make sure Quad gets a well-deserved revival, but to also give aspiring artists an awesome opportunity to share their art with everyone.
“A stage will be set up at University for artists to perform on busker-style,” said Trackage Scheme’s Ben Vincenti. “But it’s going to be open for everything, not just musical performances.” A Street Food Stall will also be available right next to it.
This awesome idea echoes Trafalgar Square’s 4th Plinth Project from 2009, where for a hundred days, random members of the general public were given the opportunity to become a ‘living monument’ in the heart of London and do whatever they liked for one hour.
“The space is open during University lecture hours and is literally going to be a stage with no lighting or PA equipment,” Ben continued. Musicians would need to bring their own sound much like a performer would need to bring their own props, but this in itself is what makes the space so unique and easily customisable. Whether you’re a singer, dancer, stand-up comedian, or think you have something worth sharing, this is your moment.
“It’s a testbed project and we’ll see how it goes, but the whole thing is very exciting and it will hopefully pick up,” Ben continued.
The whole project starts on the 24th of April and will last until the end of the scholastic year, around the second week of June. Applications for a slot are still ongoing.
