Online tributes have poured in for Taber Hammond, a 33-year-old rugby player and medical professional who died last weekend in his home.

Both Steward Health Care Malta as well as the Malta Rugby Football Union have extended their condolences to the friends and families, and called Taber a gentleman and a coworker and player like no other.

“While he had not been part of our community for very long, Taber made a name for himself both on and off the pitch, not only as a stand out player and sportsman, but also as a joyful character who embodied the values of the rugby community. He was by all means a gentleman that many of us will regret not having the time to get to know better.”

He was also a caring professional at work, and loved every second of his job. Videos posted to Facebook show his excitement at helping others, while going out of his way to make sure the patient’s comfort came before everything.

“Taber was the most passionate and driven of individuals, both in his private and professional career. Upon starting his position as Prosthetics Lead at Karin Grech Hospital, it was immediately obvious that he was the most organized, passionate, caring and skilled prosthetist that the Maltese Community could have hoped for.”

RIP, Taber
