Ukrainian Community In Malta To Hold Demonstration To Remember Two Years Since Russian Invasion
It has been almost two years since the full-scale invasion of Russia in Ukraine, and the Ukrainian community in Malta is ensuring that this devastating event is remembered with a demonstration in Valletta.
On Saturday 24th February, the Foundation of the Ukrainian Community of Malta, with the support of the Ukrainian World Congress and the European Commission Representation in Malta, is holding a two-part event in support of war-torn Ukraine.
The two-hour demonstration will kick off at 1 pm from Spinola Bay in St. Julian’s and end up near the Sliema Ferry pier, with individuals carrying a large flag of Ukraine.
The demonstration will then move to Valletta, where individuals will gather next to Parliament, with a formal public gathering beginning at 4 pm.
“We invite everyone of you, along with your relatives and friends, to join us to remind the world that the war in Ukraine and our resistance goes on, to show support to everyone who continues to defend our common values at the front of our dear country and to honour the memory of those who lost their lives in this war,” the Ukrainian Community of Malta posted on their social media.
Russian aggression against Ukraine has been ongoing since 2012, with an aggressive campaign against the country and the occupation and annexation of Crimea, as well as certain territories in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, challenging the framework of collective security established post-World War II and posing a threat to Europe’s stability.
