The Filipino Community in Malta enjoyed a traditional celebration dancing in the streets of Marsaskala yesterday afternoon.

The group of dozens brightened the cloudy day with their vibrant red and yellow costumes.

Footage posted on social media shows the community celebrating the Sinolug 2024 which is a traditional celebration dating back to 1980 usually held in Cebu City every third Sunday of January to honour the Santo Niño – child Jesus.

The festival is centred around a dance ritual that tells the story of the Filipino people’s pagan past and their acceptance of Christianity.

In fact, the word Sinolug translates to ‘graceful dance’. This year, the joyous celebration made it all the way to Malta, allowing the community to keep in touch with their roots and opening up locals’ minds to other cultures and experiences.
