Watch: How Two Large Empty Garages In St. Paul’s Bay Turned Into A Bustling Charity Shop For Puttinu Cares

Puttinu Cares’ charity work across the islands and beyond is well documented, with the children’s cancer support group helping countless people through a number of different initiatives. This is the story of one of those many initiatives: their charity shop in St. Paul’s Bay.

It all started with Mario Farrugia, who left the organisation two large garages which Puttinu converted into what has now become a sprawling charity shop in the north.

Everything from clothes and books to prams and chandeliers can be found here, with different aisles boasting a number of pre-loved items ready for their new owners.

“I wanted to do some good,” one volunteer told Lovin Malta during a visit to the large charity shop which is constantly stocking up and selling its wares for extremely affordable prices, all in the name of charity. “It’s so transparent, you see where the money is going,” another said.

“Storage is always changed according to the times, for example stuff for Carnival, Valentine’s, Christmas, Easter, summer and winter clothes,” the volunteers continued. “We always try to change stock… and we always need more stock. And we try and keep the prices as low as possible.”

“I think you can feel the love when you come in here,” the volunteer continued – and you can definitely see it come to life while watching all the volunteers beaming as they ran us through their wares. “We’re very close to each other. We care for each other. But volunteers are never enough!”

Accepting all types of donations, Puttinu Cares’ Charity Shop is another integral key in its long chain of selfless acts… and it all culminates in their massive annual fundraising marathons. This year’s edition will run on Good Friday, 29th March.
