If you’ve ever wanted to make a real difference in Malta but just couldn’t get around the financial obstacles of making it a reality, the ultimate game-changing opportunity is back.

For the third consecutive year, the Social Impact Awards will be bringing together some of Malta’s most inspirational organisations and individuals, awarding thousands of Euro in grants to help elevate their ideas from concept to reality. Last year, €120,000 were given out to five projects that ranged from mental health clinics to a food truck run by migrant women, and the awards have already raised almost a quarter of a million Euros over the past two years.

Now, plans are underway for an even bigger third year. “Next year, we need to think about what we can do, how we can make and impact,” Inspirasia Foundation and Iniala Group founder Mark Weingard had told everyone gathered at last year’s edition. “Next year, we want this event to be massive. Whatever you do next year, make a difference, make an impact. Today you have made a difference. We created an academy of givers.” One year on, everything is set for the SIA to restart.

The prestigious event is being organised as a collaboration between the Inspirasia Foundation and The Gasan Foundation, which will be providing both financial and non-financial support to these non-profit organisations.

If you’re wondering whether your idea qualifies, you’re in luck. The awards recognise a wide variety of bodies; non-profit organisations, social enterprises and even individuals. If you have an innovative social project that can have a sustainably positive impact and scalable change for Malta, you’re eligible!

Applications for this year’s awards will officially be opening on the 12th of March. They will open for just over a month, closing on the 30th of April. During this period, any prospective ‘changemakers’ can go on the SIA official website to check out more information, guidelines and even application forms.

The shortlisted projects will be announced by the end of May, and they’ll have till November’s final event to plan their pitch. On the official launch of applications for this year’s edition, there’s going to be an information session taking place at the Business Incubation Centre at the University’s Dar Ġużeppi Zahra between 12:30pm and 2:30pm.

In the meantime, if you’d like even more (and specific) information, you can always contact SIA’s Louisa via email.
