Malta’s oldest animal shelter will finally undergo some well-needed refurbishment to their 100-year-old building in Floriana… but there’s one heartbreaking catch: every dog and cat that currently calls it their home needs to be relocated for a couple of weeks.

“On the first week of February, all the animals at the Floriana shelter need to be relocated in order to undergo refurbishments to increase their capacity and improve the facilities,” MSPCA wrote. “These dogs and cats need to be fostered for around 2-3 weeks while works take place.”

“By the 7th of February, our dogs need to be fostered,” an emotional MSPCA volunteer explained in a video uploaded by Waggos over the weekend. “We cannot have the dogs on the premises and we can’t have people on the premises… and at the moment, we only have one foster home.”

Seemingly holding back tears, the volunteer went on to say the MSPCA is “working very hard to see what potential homes we can possibly find”, but it clearly is a behemoth task that needs everyone to pull the same rope.

Pitching in with their own contribution, Eukanuba Malta is promising a free bag of kibble to every dog that gets fostered, with a number of comments and shares flooding in to try and find these furry friends new foster homes.
