Yesterday, hundreds of Ukrainians marched proudly from Spinola Bay to the Sliema Ferries to commemorate two years since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The march, organised by the Foundation of the Ukrainian Community of Malta with the support of the Ukrainian World Congress and the European Commission Representation in Malta, was succeeded by a formal gathering in Valletta. This event commemorated not only the two-year anniversary since Russia’s invasion but also the ten-year mark since the commencement of Russian aggression against Ukraine.

The procession was captured in a video by photographer Anisa Alsabri, where participants can be seen walking through the streets of Malta chanting “Slava Ukraini” which means “Glory to Ukraine”.

Ukrainian lawyer Iryna Huk also captured some powerful moments from the rally, with a particularly potent snapshot depicting a little girl holding a handmade poster which read “stop war”.

She also captured the heartfelt moment when the Ukrainian community sang a Ukrainian song in Valletta called “Oi U Luzi Chervona Kalyna”, a song which symbolises national resistance and aspirations for freedom.

On Saturday, several thousand people across various European cities gathered to express solidarity with Ukraine. Among these cities were Berlin, London, Dublin, Belgrade, Paris, and Istanbul, among others.
