WATCH: Sudanese Paola Butcher Opens Up About Integrating In Malta: ‘I Love Everyone Here’
A Sudanese refugee who runs a butcher in Paola has said he feels properly integrated within Maltese society.
In an interview with Lovin Malta, Mohammed Ibrahim Suleman said he has been living in Malta for the past 12 years after fleeing Sudan due to war.
“It’s hard to be forced to flee your family, your parents and the village you were born in. A country is like a mother,” he said.
Despite this traumatic experience, Mohammed managed to make a success out of his life, opening up Soyah Halal Butcher in Paola.
On how Malta has welcomed him, Mohammed only has words of love.
“I do feel like part of the community here. I think everyone around this area likes me. I think so. I love everyone here. If you spread love, people will love you,”
Mohammed has big dreams for the future and would like to expand his business one day so that he can employ people and give others the opportunity that has been given to him.
This feature is part of Making Malta Home, a new Lovin Malta video series in conjunction with UNHCR Malta focusing on successful integration stories of refugees in Malta.
