Watch: ‘This Cannot Keep Happening’ – Marsaskala Residents Lament Busy Road’s Frequent Flooding

Residents of Marsaskala have taken to social media to lament an-all-too-familiar issue plaguing one of the seaside locality’s busiest roads: flooding.

In photos and videos sent to Lovin Malta and posted to a popular residents group, the main road leading out of the church and into the town’s busy intersection can be seen partially flooded, and while many residents reminded each other that it’s a natural phenomenon, some weren’t quite satisfied with that answer.

“So we find a long-term solution, not just look at it,” one comment read. “Rain is natural, but I think if it’s raining and you go out, you taken an umbrella with you, right?”

Other residents pointed out the fact that if the situation is this bad with tides and winds when the days are still dry, it would only be expected to get worse once it actually starts raining.

“That’s where the sea used to come up to years ago, so the sea wants her land back,” another person poetically put it. “We mortals cannot keep pinching mother nature.”

From criticisms of the original plans to suggestions of an MOSE system similar to what Venice uses, the comments kept pouring in, but one thing’s for sure: for a lot of residents of Marsaskala, this can’t keep on happening forever.
