Could This Be The Year That Miss Universe Crowns Its First Plus-Sized Model?

The stunning and plus-sized Miss Nepal has dedicated herself to taking down outdated beauty standards by representing her country in this year’s edition of Miss Universe.
Jane Dipika Garrett is 22 years old and her presence on the stage in El Salvador sparked widespread cheers as she aims to be the first plus-sized woman to win the prestigious pageant.
Garett advocates for body positivity as well as women’s hormonal and mental health. She’s reportedly said that she’s competing in Miss Universe to represent all women, not following certain beauty standards.
However, to get to this stage has not been an easy ride. Garrett has explained that she’s battled insecurity and low self-esteem. So after getting through that, she’s decided to make a strong and global statement: “All women are beautiful just the way they are.”
Garrett isn’t the only contestant this year defying traditional standards. Miss Guatemala is the first mother to qualify for the 2023 pageant while Rikkie Valerie Kollé is the first transwoman to represent the Netherlands on the Miss Universe stage.
Miss Universe is taking place this weekend and the island has its eyes peeled for the gorgeous Miss Malta’s – Ella Portelli – final performance.
