Did You Spot It? Comet Of The Century Captured Over Malta

Article Featured Image

Maltese skies were graced by a rare sight as the “Comet of the Century,” officially known as Comet A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS), streaked across the sky.

First seen from Earth just last month, this spectacular comet hasn’t passed by our planet since the time of the Neanderthals, about 80,000 years ago.

What makes Comet A3 stand out as the “Comet of the Century” is its remarkable brightness and visibility.

The comet made its way across the northern hemisphere, dazzling sky-watchers in Malta.

The Royal Astronomical Society (RAS) in the UK predicted it would be visible from early October until the end of the month, and it did not disappoint, with many capturing stunning images of this cosmic phenomenon.

As Comet A3 passed within 70 million kilometres of Earth, it lit up the night sky, appearing like a bright torch or a trail similar to an airplane’s contrail.

To catch a glimpse of this comet, it’s recommended to go out right after sunset with a pair of binoculars, head to higher ground, and look west for a chance to see it.
