Budget 2025: Electric Vehicle Grant To Decrease From €11,000 To €8,000
The Electric Vehicle grant will decrease from €11,000 to €8,000, Finance Minister Clyde Caruana announced in this evening’s 2025 Budget speech.
Caruana assured that those who have already bought the vehicle and signed for the grant will still be getting the initial €11,000 but subsequent applicants will benefit from the reduced amount.
This, he explained, will allow more people to benefit from this scheme and matches the overall reduction in prices of electric vehicles.
Meanwhile, the maximum grant for electric bikes and small vans will be €2,000.
Around a month ago, the Association of Car Importers Malta (ACIM) said it was unsure whether the electric vehicles subsidies will continue into 2025. In fact, Caruana had confirmed that EU funds allocated for the purchase of new electric vehicles were used up and the government has had to finance the scheme by using national funds for the rest of the year.
Malta was benefitting from the Recovery and Resilience Plan which saw €15 million injected annually over a period of three years between 2022 and 2024.
In 2022, subsidies for fully electric vehicles increased from €9,000 to €11,000 and as of January 2025, this will go down to €8,000.
Stay tuned for more updates from the 2025 Budget speech.
