Dawra Madwarna: This Project Wants To Make Malta’s Public Spaces Greener
Malta isn’t particularly known for its green public spaces, and the more rampant the construction industry continues to be, the fewer green spaces we have.
This is where Dawra Madwarna (DM) comes in, a local organisation made up of professionals from different fields on a voluntary basis, aiming to instil imagination on what Malta could look like.
These individuals dedicate their time and energy to work together to propose better green public spaces for Malta, something which is becoming increasingly more needed.
The organisation’s mission is focused on the creation of alternative urban visions through the transformation of public spaces for a more sustainable future.
“DM is currently working with residents in Senglea, as a case study, to turn existing open spaces into greener places where the community can meet and interact,” co-founder of Dawra Madwarna Faye Scibberras told Lovin Malta.
“By reclaiming, greening and utilizing these spaces, we are injecting new life into our towns, creating a sense of community, and improving well-being through these green pockets.”
“Working with communities in this way is called Placemaking and DM is one of the advocates of the international organisation Placemaking X.”
An official Placemaking event is set to be held in Senglea, on 22nd October as part of the Recreate project, which is being led by Ecostack Innovations, in collaboration with the University of Malta and Senglea Local Council.
“We will be organising planting information sessions, painting of benches, pots and a mural; a pjazza picnic and street games for the community,” she explained.
While collaborating with MOVE, a Placemaking workshop for local council councillors will also take place during the upcoming event.
