Disputed Mellieħa Green Lung Could Become 109-Apartment Block
A heavily disputed green lung in Mellieħa could become a 109-apartment and penthouse block as seen in a development application submitted to the Planning Authority.
This comes way over a year since a green lung in the middle of a residential area along Triq is-Sagħtar and Triq il-Miġbħa in Mellieħa, known as Tal-Qortin, went up for sale, sparking outrage from residents and a number of politicians.
Meanwhile, a development application has revealed plans to transform the 4,000 square metre land into an apartment complex, filed by T&S Property Holdings.
The proposed development would ultimately feature 92 apartments, 17 penthouses, and 171 basement garages, making up three different blocks housing 23 residential units on four floors.
While the application still appears to be under review, the Environment and Resources Authority has already granted its approval.
The application came shortly after the land was transferred to T&S Property Holdings, which is led by Paul Attard and Paul Vella, who are directly involved with GAP Property and Ballut Blocks.
What started out as an advert on the Lands Authority website had soon developed into residents opening a parliamentary petition to protest against the possible development of the land, backed up by several MPs.
But despite many speaking out against the action, the process was not halted.
