Festa Logic? Trees Cut In Half In Isla To Make Way For Street Decorations

Isla residents have taken to social media to call out the damage inflicted to a number of trees after they were brutally cut in half to make way for festa decorations.

As a result of the extreme pruning, at least two trees were damaged, with one of them being hidden away by a papal banner.

One angry resident sent photos of the trees to Lovin Malta, which are located in the street right opposite the church of Isla, in Triq il-Misraħ Papa Benedittu XIV.

“This would be hilarious if it wasn’t so shockingly environmentally insensitive,” another resident wrote on social media.

“Hack off chunks of a tree just to fit the street decorations for a brief festa event. Oh, but don’t make a fuss, the trees will grow back. That’s not the point,” she said.

“Let us all treat trees with the utmost respect. They are after all one of our greatest defences to cope with escalating temperatures in urban spaces,” she appealed.

Independent politician Arnold Cassola also reacted to the matter on social media, saying: “Senglea Festa logic… If the column or banner does not fit in, what do we do? Elementary, Watson. Tear the tree apart to fit in exactly, right?”

Lovin Malta reached out to the Senglea Mayor to enquire whether he is aware of the matter and whether it was authorised by the council – however, no response was given at the time of publishing.
