Project Green is a government entity tasked with creating new green and open spaces across Malta.

They’ve been in action since January 2023 and have worked tirelessly to achieve their green goals.

Over €10,000,000 is being invested and spread over 16 projects around the islands. Thanks to this fund, known as the Community Greening Grant, 1 out of every 4 individuals will enjoy an open space less than 10 minutes away from their homes, according to the entity.

And to celebrate the climate-conscious work, we’ve compiled a list of the projects they’ve worked on and actioned over the past couple of months.

1. Birżebbuġa

The project regenerated 17,000 metres into a new family park in Bengħajsa, Birżebbuġa, which includes play equipment for local children as well as the planting of 4,000 trees.

2. Dog Park

An underutilised site in Ta’ Ġawhar, at the limits of Ħal Safi, has been transformed into a picnic area and a dog park, creating the perfect place to play with your pup.

3. Gudja

In Gudja, an area of 1100 sqm has been regenerated into a sustainable garden, accessible to everyone.

4. Bormla

In Bormla, an area of 3,000 square metres could have been a site for development, but instead, Project Green decided to return it to the community as a green open space with a car park underneath.

5. Mosta

Students can now work and study in the first-ever Green Open Campus at Millbrae Grove in Mosta.

It’s fully equipped with chargers, benches, and open wifi accessible to all.

6. San Ġwann

About 90% of San Ġwann residents will have access to a green open space less than 10 minutes away from their homes.
