Gone Fishing! This Maltese NGO Is Organising Two Cool and Sustainable Activities This Weekend
Under the right circumstances and surrounded by the right people, even a simple hobby can end up becoming a random and important act of kindness.
Malta’s sport-fishing pioneers Kingfisher Sport Fishing Associated will be holding two educational events this weekend (on 4th August), fundraising for Puttinu Cares.
Unlike commercial fishing, sport fishing (or recreational fishing) traditionally practices a catch-and-release philosophy, to reduce harm done to marine wildlife.
Kingfisher Sport Fishing Associated are passionate about educating people on the subject of marine conservation, and will be holding a seabed cleanup and charity fishing event this coming weekend.
Both events will happen on Sunday 4th August on the Marsaskala promenade.
The cleanup will begin at 1pm and end at 4:30pm. Divers from Divemed, Żibel, Raniero Adventures , No To Plastic Malta and MTA will be collecting rubbish and debris from the seabed. Everyone else can help out on shore by separating what they collect accordingly.
The day will then continue onto a charity fishing event, with all donations going towards the Puttinu Cares foundation.
Children accompanied by adults can learn how to rig their rods and fish sustainably according to the catch and release method – with all fish caught being released back to sea alive.
The event aims to create a fun experience for you and your family as well as educate the public about the importance of conservation as well as how to handle fish properly when fishing.
Any parents interested in bringing their children along for this activity should contact KSFA beforehand on 77050624 / 79057238.
