Trick or treating is so 2018. Transport Minister Ian Borg has replied to that joke you’ve been seeing all around social media in the last 24 hours… and yes, it’s the most Ian Borg reply ever.
Chopped trees and new roads have been Malta’s order of the day for a couple of years now, but as many feel the situation escalating on a regular basis, the opportunity was perfect for a Halloween meme aimed solidly at the face of it all, Ian Borg.
A very timely and punny joke that quickly got turned into a meme went viral across all Maltese social media yesterday with one very simple premise: when Ian Borg comes knocking, will you choose Triq or Tree?
The joke, which seemed to have started as a WhatsApp message that spread around like wildfire, quickly made its way to Facebook… with an edit or two from everyone including yours truly, of course.
Now, Ian Borg has replied to going viral, and it’s exactly what you’d expect.
“Good morning, which one did you prefer?” the minister posted on Facebook this morning, sharing two memes of the punchline and clearly taking it all like a champ. But of course, there was still one thing left to say.
“The fact remains, though, that we’re making roads and planting trees,” he jested, addressing the ongoing trees-versus-development debate that’s been raging for a while.
And of course, some comments (from both ends of the political spectrum) were always bound to go that little bit overboard, but it looks like most people took the joke as perfectly as Ian Borg himself did.
