Illegal Works Continue Outside Mdina Bastions Despite Stop Notice By Planning Authority
Illegal works are taking place in Mdina despite being given a stop notice by the Planning Authority (PA).
Photos sent to Lovin Malta show trucks dumping massive breeze blocks and construction material in an area below the Mdina Bastions, thus indicating that these illegalities are still ongoing.
When Planning Authority went on site there was no machinery. However, once Lovin Malta sent them the images, they were able to locate the area, speak to the workers and remove the unsanctioned materials.
“Note that when the site was inspected yesterday, there was no machinery and no one on site,” Planning Authority told Lovin Malta.
“Following the receipt of the photographs, officers from the Planning Authority inspected the area again, managed to identify the site, and spoke to the workers. The contravener was given instructions to immediately remove the deposited material.”
Illegal works in this area were already investigated by the Compliance and Enforcement Directorate and the owner of the land had been served a warning notice to stop all works with immediate effect back in May.
However, photos taken yesterday show that these works have resumed.
The area is below the Mdina Bastions and it’s both outside the development zone and within an Urban Conservation area.
Newsbook first broke this story and explained that although a permit to restore the small agricultural rooms in the area was filed, photos proved that the area around the structure was being levelled.
These same aerial shots showed that works covered a considerable area.
