‘I’ve Been Caring For These Ducks For Years’: 22 Domestic Ducks Shot Dead In Private Ħal Far Field
22 domestic ducks who were living a happy life in a private field in Ħal Far were recently found massacred and found dead with gunshot wounds.
The heartbroken woman who has been caring for them for years opened up about the ordeal with Lovin Malta, detailing the great pain that this has caused her.
“We’ve had these ducks for ages, and on Wednesday we found them all dead lying around and in the pond with gunshot wounds. I’ve been going up there since I was a young girl, I did not expect this and I don’t know why this happened,” the woman told Lovin Malta.
“It doesn’t make sense to me to kill animals for nothing, it’s cruel, regardless of which animal it is, it shouldn’t happen. They were such gentle animals too,” she said.
Whoever committed the cruel act killed all of the ducks inhabiting the private space, with some of them being old and also young.
“I used to count them all to see if all of them are still there… All of them were killed. And I could tell that some of them tried to escape.”
“They even had a sunshade which I had done for them so they could have some shade from the sun, and this was found all torn,” she said.
The woman explained how they’re suspecting that whoever committed the act jumped into their property, given that even the sunshade was found torn.
A report has been filed with both the police as well as the Office for the Commissioner for Animal Welfare, which assured that it is looking into it.
