Light Pollution Overload? Manikata House’s Facade Turns Heads With Over-The-Top Lighting

A Manikata house has turned heads with bombastic lighting fixtures installed onto its facade, with locals slamming the new light pollution being produced in the area.

Residents living along Triq il-Mejjiesa have had their sleep disturbed due to the over-the-top lighting which is adorning the newly-constructed building.

Speaking with Lovin Malta, one resident detailed how the lights have been left switched on for a 24/7 basis over the last three months, causing unbearable light pollution in the area.

Lovin Malta is informed the house belongs to a notorious businessman; upon attempting to reach out to him, no response was given at the time of publishing.

An environmental activist recently spoke out about the house in a post on social media, confirming the lights are left on all night long.

“Light pollution laws can’t be penned fast enough. The neighbours must be delighted having this all night next to their window. This charming house is lighting up the whole damn area of Manikata from kilometres away,” they wrote.

Such high levels of light pollution can negatively affect the surrounding environment, which falls within the Il-Majjistral Nature and History Park, as well as birds migrating in the area – not to mention the absolute waste of electricity.
