Malta’s Second Seabin Has Just Been Installed
Yes, yes, and yes. A seabin has been installed in the Three Cities Marina and it’s the second one to be installed in Malta, with the other seabin having previously been installed at the Yacht Marina in Sa Maison.
What even is a seabin?
An initiative that started in Australia, seabins are manufactured from recycled materials and sift through 25,000 litres of seawater per hour to scoop up 1.5kg of floating debris per day. That’s like picking up 560 table tennis balls.
It’s basically a trashcan for the ocean and helps combat water pollution. As it moves up and down with the tide, it collects contaminants on the surface, and picks up all of the oil, litter and debris as the water filters back into the marina.
The initiation of this seabin is thanks to the Von der Heyden Group, Cugó Gran Macina Grand Harbour, Hammett’s Collection, The Grand Harbour Marina, Palumbo, Bradbury Yacht Concierge Services and S&D Yachts, who collaborated with Strand Marine and e-NGO Żibel.
