Maltese adventurer and explorer Pierre Farrugia is back with another enticing exploration, this time embarking on a journey to the sandy ‘Lovers’ Cave’ in Comino.

“This time I explored a sea cave in Comino, some find it as a sandy beach cave, others call it the ‘Lovers’ Cave’. I launched my kayak from Ċirkewwa and first paddled around 2km to the island of Comino,” Farrugia explained.

The cave is situated very close to Crystal Lagoon, an area that is known for its array of different caves by many explorers.

“This cave had around a 50-metre sea tunnel, and here you will be amazed by the colour of the sea. This tunnel is wide enough that motor boats can go in, so one needs to take care if they intend to swim their way in,” he said.

“Once you paddle all the way in you are greeted with a large cave with around a 10-metre high ceiling and a beautiful sandy beach.

When inside the cave, one can then rest their kayak and stretch their legs, even having a bit of a break to enjoy the marvel.

“Unfortunately the ignorance of some always shine in a bad way, as the inner walls are full of graffiti. I always try to point this out and highlight that by doing so, we are ruining this beautiful cave,” he lamented.

Throughout his trip, Farrugia then also visited ‘Għar Bla Saqaf’ in Crystal Lagoon, which translates to a cave without a roof.

Farrugia is known for his various explorations around the Maltese islands while hiking and also while kayaking, along with his historical knowledge of a number of locations.
