Maltese Youth Rank Climate As Key EU Priority

When it comes to the future of Europe, young people across the EU aren’t shy about saying what really matters to them.

According to the EU Youth Survey 2025, the three biggest concerns among young people are:
– 40% say rising prices and the cost of living
– 33% say the environment and climate change
– 31% say the economy and job creation

And when you zoom into the countries where climate change is the number one issue, Malta makes the list.

Italy – 46%
Denmark – 44%
France – 40%
Malta – 36%

That means over one in three young Maltese see climate change and the environment as their top priority for the EU over the next five years – well above the European average of 30%.

Interestingly, the survey also found that young people who’ve gone through post-secondary or higher education are even more likely to place the environment at the top of their list, compared to those who didn’t.

So while rising prices and day-to-day struggles dominate the conversation across Europe, it’s clear that for Malta’s youth, protecting the environment and fighting climate change is still a core concern for the future.

At the end of the day, Maltese young people are saying it loud: the planet we live on is just as important as the money in our pockets.

Do you think the EU is doing enough?
