WATCH: Man Takes It Upon Himself To Clean Up 100 Plastic Bottles Left On Streets Of Attard Following Yesterday’s Marathon

What began as a post on littering quickly turned into an inspirational example of how Maltese organisations should act when setting up large events… and it’s all thanks to one man and his camera.

A video emerged on the popular Facebook adventure page, Raniero’s Adventures, showing the mess that was left behind as a result of the Attard five-kilometre marathon race that went down yesterday. In the video, a large amount of plastic waters bottles can be seen left on the street after the marathon, presumably for those who took part in the race.

The clip was taken 10 hours after the finish of the race, which led to many angry comments on how the event organisers took so long to clean up after them.

Thankfully, Raniero took it upon himself to clean up this mess, collecting over 95 plastic bottles from the street, even searching under parked cars for a couple.

The event organisers have since responded to Raniero’s post, apologising for what had transpired and stating that it “should never happen again”

“The organisers are not to blame as out of 1,100 runners, they couldn’t recall just 100 of the bottles at the water station,” Raniero said in a Facebook post providing an update to the saga.

The situation has since been rectified and it seems like the organisers in question realised their wrongdoing.

Hopefully, videos like this can help raise awareness on the necessary steps that we need to take towards protecting our environment whilst enjoying these large events.
