MIDI Prepared To Discuss Manoel Island Project’s Future With Government

MIDI plc announced that it is prepared to discuss with the Government for the best way forward for Manoel Island’s development, in a statement shared with the media yesterday evening.
MIDI plc “is prepared to engage in constructive discussions with the Government, guided by a commitment to protect public interest and the Company’s shareholders and bondholders,” wrote Catherine Formosa, Company Secretary.
Prior to this development, MIDI had said that several residences and retail outlets would be developed. On the other side of the scale, 63% of the space on the island (equivalent to 175,000 square metres) would be dedicated to public open spaces.
In March 2025, the Post Għalina campaign was launched to put Manoel Island back on the national agenda through a petition that was signed by 29,000 people in favour of the campaign’s objective.

The statement by MIDI plc went on to say that “in light of this shift in Government’s policy direction, the Company is open to reaching an agreement that reflects current national priorities which are clearly different from those prevailing when the concession was granted.” Additionally, the company promises to keep the market informed of material developments.
“With so much at stake, yesterday’s development shows that when there is unity, people who believe in a cause and are prepared to fight for it, can change our country for the better! FAA and Moviment Graffitti hope that everyone across the political spectrum works together to obtain the best possible outcome for all parties, but most of all for the public,” wrote Flimkien għal Ambjent Aħjar (FAA) in reaction to yesterday evening’s statement by MIDI.
