On the second day of a Moviment Graffitti action demanding updates on a promised fuel stations policy revision, activists walked from their protest-campsite in front of Floriana’s Planning Authority building to the Transport Ministry. Finding Environment Minister José Herrera and Transport Minister Ian Borg waiting for them, the activists engaged in an impromptu debate… but they’re not quite satisfied with the results.

“Nothing new came out of the meeting,” prominent Moviment Graffitti member Andre Callus told Lovin Malta. “We’re still disappointed.”

“They’ve been saying since April that it will be published,and they’ve been saying publication was imminent since November,” Callus continued. “Now it’s March, and we still don’t have anything. They’re always postponing, and in the four months since November, more applications have been filed to build new fuel stations on ODZ. Applications have to be processed under the policy in effect at the time they were submitted, so these continued delays just provide more opportunities for speculation”

“The consultation should be published now.”

“The fact that we’ve been waiting a year and four months now is totally scandalous,” Callus told Lovin Malta.

Moviment Graffitti will now resume their ‘siege’ on Planning Authority, and should be staying till at least Sunday

“We might stay more,” Callus told Lovin Malta. “Or we could stay less… that is, if the policy is published, one which stops allowing fuel stations being built on ODZ.”
