Gozitan-based environmental group Nadur Nadif collected as many as 738 garbage bags worth of trash found in Gozo’s environment in 2022 alone.

Since the group started collecting trash from Nadur in October 2020, a total of 1,526 garbage bags were filled by volunteers.

“It’s quite impressive to think that if each garbage bag we collected (with an average diameter of around 0.5 – 0.7m) had to be placed one atop the other, it would approximately reach the same height as the tallest building in the world,” Nadur Nadif founder Luke Said told Lovin Malta.

Nadur Nadif was set up by the youth ambassador and the Nadur local council in November 2017, aiming to raise awareness on environmental matters in the Maltese islands.

Since its inception, the volunteers of Nadur Nadif aimed to create awareness on the degradation of the environment in the locality, by organising monthly clean-ups.

The group has also been at the forefront of a number of environmental campaigns, and local collaborations with Gozitan local councils for nationwide events.

Within the last two years, the group has even transitioned from monthly clean-ups to weekly ones, in order to “truly leave a positive effect on the environment around us”.

Furthermore, together with eight of its Maltese counterparts, Nadur Nadif helped start KFS, Koalizzjoni għal Futur Sostenibbli.

“This aims to create more pressure on the authorities to revise, change, add and remove some of the current environmental policies and practices,” he explained.

Well done Nadur Nadif!
