“Nature Doesn’t Come with Safety Rails” Public Urged to Stay Away from Crumbling Munxar Arch

“Nature is incredible, but it doesn’t come with safety rails.”  That’s the message from the popular kayaking group Get Out and Kayak (GOAK), which has issued a public safety alert urging outdoor enthusiasts to steer clear of the iconic Munxar Arch due to its dangerously unstable condition.

In a recent social media post, GOAK warned: “The arch is severely fractured, with large chunks already collapsed and deep vertical cracks visible. In our opinion, this natural formation is on the verge of total collapse.”

Although the Munxar Arch remains breathtaking, particularly when viewed from the water, the group emphasised that its striking appearance masks very real dangers. They strongly advise paddlers, boaters, hikers, and swimmers to avoid the area entirely, stressing that getting too close could be life-threatening.

Their alert is supported by recent photographs taken on a kayak tour, which show clear signs of heavy erosion: collapsed rock, widening cracks, and unstable surfaces, likely exacerbated by the harsh winter seas.

Concerns about the arch’s safety aren’t new. Back in October 2024, local hiker Pierre Farrugia reported noticeable signs of deterioration. But with summer 2025 bringing a surge in foot and sea traffic, GOAK says it’s more important than ever to raise awareness and prevent potential tragedy.

The group’s final message is simple but powerful: “Nature is incredible, but it doesn’t come with safety rails. Admire it from a safe distance… protect yourselves and help preserve the fragile coastline for everyone.”

Hikers are especially urged not to walk on top of the arch, and swimming near its base is strongly discouraged.

Share the message, stay alert, and enjoy nature responsibly!
