Over €67,000 Of ERA Fines Issued To Government Agencies Still Need To Be Paid
ERA is owed €67,800 worth of fines, dating back to 2018, from government agencies, including local councils.
The hefty sum includes fines which are still being appealed.
A parliamentary question by PN MP Rebekah Borg asked Environment Minister Miriam Dalli for all administrative fines (non-litter) issued by the Environment and Resource Authority to government entities and local councils from 2016 until 13th May of this year – the day the PQ was submitted.
Dalli responded with a comprehensive list of such fines which date back to 2018 and while many have been paid, several have not.
The list revealed that the Eco-Gozo Directorate/ Road Construction Co. Limited owes the authority a hefty €20,000 for violating the Trees and Woodlands Protection regulation. Similarly, MCAST’s fine of €22,400 from 2018 for violating the same law is still under appeal.
