The Planning Authority’s enforcement directorate has stepped in to remove an illegal scrapyard in ODZ land in Siġġiewi.

The owner had been ordered to clear the entire site and restore it back to its original state numerous times.

Several removal orders were issued by the PA in the past (2006, 2015, 2016) but it appears that they fell on deaf ears, TVM reported.

The site in question takes up around 3,700 square metres of land, all situated outside the development zone.

The authority is now taking it upon its hands to remove all that was illegally discarded within the site, including abandoned cars and scrap metal.

There are a number of government officials on site and police from the Rapid Intervention Unit to aid in the removal.
