A section of cliff face has collapsed near the popular St Peter’s Pool in Delimara, sending large boulders and debris crashing onto the area just below Delimara Villas.

As reported by Times of Malta, the site is now cordoned off by police as a safety precaution. Deep cracks are still visible at the cliff edge, raising concerns about further collapses.

Mountain biker Duncan Caruana, who regularly rides in the area, told ToM that the cliff appeared intact on Monday afternoon, but by Thursday it had given way.

Geologist Peter Gatt also explained that the Delimara peninsula is made up of fragile limestone prone to rapid erosion, particularly from the sea. He warned that collapses in the area are likely to continue and called for regular geological monitoring.

In a statement on Facebook, Marsaxlokk Village noted that “luckily a tragedy was avoided since a huge chunk of the rock fell during the night and also not at summer,” urging people to steer clear of the area as it is “extremely dangerous”.

St Peter’s Pool remains one of Malta’s most visited swimming spots during summer, raising concerns about safety in publicly accessible areas near unstable cliffs.
