Planning Authority Approves Sanctioning Of Portelli’s Illegal Pools In Qala
The Planning Authority has just approved the sanctioning of construction magnate Joseph Portelli’s illegal swimming pools in Qala.
The decision was approved earlier this morning during a PA meeting discussing permit PA/08143/21, dealing with sanctioning Joseph Portelli’s illegal works.
Portelli had begun excavation works of the said area way before the planning permit had been granted, while the PA allowed said works to continue.
Back in October, activists from Moviment Graffitti, as well as Qala mayor Paul Buttigieg, all called out Portelli over the illegal works on a 164-apartment residential complex in Qala, part of which is outside the development zone.
An Environmental Impact Assessment was never carried out for the proposed development prior to issuing the permit, even though the site exceeds 30,000 sqm of land.
After illegal works were carried out, Portelli had then asked the Planning Authority to sanction such illegal works which had been taking place in the area.
The disputed project is part of an entire saga involving Carravan Company Limited, which has been serving as a medium in the transfer and reselling of land. The company was set up back in 2017, making €1.5 million from last May’s sales alone.
