Remove The Illegal Natura 2000 Development: Rangers, Police And PA Enforcers Crack Down

Article Featured Image

The Malta Ranger Unit has reported that a new boathouse has appeared on a protected Natura2000 site – and Mosta Police Officers, along with Planning Authority Enforcement Officers, have notified the offender to remove the “illegally developed” building.

“At this point in time MRU is not aware if any fine has been given in connection with the removal order, although this is within a Natura2000 site – a supposedly protected area” said MRU in a post to social media.

This blatant disregard for a natural site, and one which is supposed to be protected, is yet another development which led so many to flock towards the National Environment Protest today.

This event allowed people to show their true feelings about the state of callous overdevelopment and environmental destruction residents of our islands are currently experiencing.

When Police, PA and MRU officers approached the scene of this illegal development, they arrived “just in time to see the person walking out with the tools in his hands”.

Many have been caught similarly red handed in the past.

It remains to be seen if this removal order will be properly enforced, and if the person responsible will receive any other penalty for attempting to build illegally on protected land.
