Rota Launches New Project To Gather Suggestions From Public On Cycling In Malta
Local environmental NGO Rota has just launched a new initiative called Locality Improvement Project, aimed at collecting suggestions from the public on cycling in Malta.
This project aims to be a crowd-sourcing initiative to drive positive change in every locality by creating an easy-to-use portal to submit suggestions.
People encountering setbacks in their daily life can quickly submit suggestions on rota.mt/suggest. Rota will then push these suggestions to Local Councils and other relevant authorities.
When asked about the project, Rota president Daniel Vella told Lovin Malta, “Through this approach, we aim to work on minor, incremental improvements that will bring a major change in the long run.”
“Our committee is only composed of a couple of people, and we are only exposed to what we experience daily. Hence, it’s easy to get stuck in our bubble. This project will extend our exposure all across Malta and Gozo by crowd-sourcing idea generation for locality improvements,” Vella continued.
“However, the success of this project only depends on people taking the time to submit suggestions, and it only takes a few seconds or minutes to do so,” he concluded.
Some examples of these suggestions can be:
1. Install a small ramp to get onto the bicycle lane in Central Link, so I don’t have to dismount my bicycle.
2. Install bicycle racks near Surfside, Sliema
3. Fix the dangerous water culvert in Street X, as it’s a safety hazard for bicycle users.
4. Pavement is broken in location X.
