‘Sea Of Cement’: Illegal Dumping In Water Channel Leading To Gozo’s Ramla Bay Spotted

A truck illegally dumping cement into a water channel leading to Gozo’s Ramla Bay was recently spotted.
Local clean-up group Nadur Nadif were in the area of Tax-Xħajma when they spotted a cement truck dumping cement into a water channel that leads to the valley.
“On 8th October at around 4pm, we witnessed the dumping of cement by a cement truck in one of the water channels. This channel is located right next to the motorcycle racetrack at Triq tax-Xħajma,” Nadur Nadif said in a statement.
“Even though there is a sign stipulating ‘No Dumping’ in big bold letters, this illegal practice seems to have been going on for months if not years,” it said.
“As a result, the section of the water channel that runs beneath the street has inevitably been blocked.”
“We have all become accustomed to witnessing our natural environment slowly disappear into a grey hue of cement, but it is still a pity to witness another one of our picturesque valleys succumbing to this issue,” Nadur Nadif said.
“In the coming torrential rainfall that will batter the Maltese archipelago the blockage of this water channel will result in massive flooding in this area.”
“This will most likely cause irreparable damage to the structural integrity of the road and neighbouring agricultural fields. Thus, this is a great threat to public safety and the livelihood of these farmers,” it appealed.
Nadur Nadif concluded by appealing to authorities to take action and encourage the general public to take a stand in “protecting what is left of our rapidly deteriorating environment”.
