Serious Pothole In St Julian’s Fixed After Posing Danger To Drivers

A serious pothole in St Julian’s that was posing a serious danger to drivers and pedestrians was attended to after the matter was brought to light.

Lovin Malta received photos of the pothole earlier, with the source pointing out that drivers were confusing it for a roundabout, due to the signs that were placed around it.

The newsroom then reached out to St Julian’s local council and Infrastructure Malta respectively to notify them about the matter.

“We forwarded the request to Infrastructure Malta through the Paceville management town centre, in view of the urgency and the constraints in the budget,” St Julian’s mayor Albert Buttigieg told Lovin Malta, explaining that the local council could not take care of the works.

“May I add that this is another example of heavily loaded construction trucks which are not only damaging pavements but also infrastructure! And no one takes responsibility,” Buttigieg lamented.

“The maintenance of the indicated local road in St Julian’s falls within the remit of the respective Local Council,” Infrastructure Malta said in a statement.

“Late on Friday morning, Infrastructure Malta received a request for assistance from the St Julian’s Local Council to carry out emergency repairs in Xatt il-Bajja ta’ San Gorg (St George’s Bay Road). The Local Council noted that it did not have a contractor who could carry out these repairs at short notice,” it said.

“Infrastructure Malta immediately directed one of its emergency works contractors to intervene and assist the Local Council as necessary,” it said.

“Temporary repairs to ensure the safety of road users will be carried out in the next few hours. Additional repairs will continue tomorrow,” it concluded, with the statement being sent yesterday.

Works on the said pothole should now have been concluded, and the road is safe to use once again.
