The controversial news to transplant the Ficus trees from Mosta Square sparked an outcry across the islands however it has also left its digital footprint as it is now marked as a new historical landmark on Google Maps dubbed “Siġar Massakrati”.

Moviment Graffitti commenced a protest yesterday morning where they halted the works happening in Mosta which also led to the short arrest of Andre Callus after he tried to remove a fence which was being put up.

This protest has taken Malta by storm as it stirred a widespread outcry as many condemned the action to transplant the trees to Santa Margerita, removing the trees which were a proud feature of the Mosta square.

This new historical landmark has immortalised this event’s significance, immortalising the memory of what went down yesterday in Mosta and how these plans impact the environment as urban development is given a priority.

The protest is still ongoing with activists having spent the night in tents at Mosta square as they encourage the public to join them throughout the day and to gather for tonight’s protest at 6.30pm in front of the local council office.
