St George’s Bay is officially fit for bathing after it was contaminated with E. coli last month.

The Environmental Health Directorate within the Superintendence of Public Health had issued a notice on 21st May that bathing was not recommended at St George’s Bay due to the presence of microbiological contamination, E. coli and I. enterococci.

However, during the last days, repeated sampling of seawater from the bathing site indicated the bay is once again fit for bathing and so the health warning is being lifted – the directorate informed.

After speaking to the Water Services Corporation, Lovin Malta was told that this contamination, as well as one in Balluta Bay identified that same day, was the result of third-party blockages.

That being said, this is a recurring issue, as seen from last summer, which needs some proper direct action.
