Local iGaming powerhouse Betsson Group is on a quest to transform Malta’s environment, and it’s just signed a collaboration agreement to plant one million trees on the island.

Betsson became the first ‘Tree Partner’ in the iGaming industry after it teamed up with Saġġar in a collaborative effort to plant one million trees over the next 10 years.

“Our operational headquarters is in Malta, and has so been for over 15 years, and we care a great deal about the island. By supporting the planting of trees, we help improve the environment and climate for all who live here, with fresher air, lower temperatures and pleasant greenery,” said Betsson CEO Jesper Svensson.

Jesper Svensson along with Betsson CHRO Lena Nordin got together with the co-founder of the QLZH Foundation Steve Mercieca yesterday to consolidate the agreement to make Malta’s future more green.

A cheque of €16,500 was handed over to the foundation, the amount of which will partially cover the costs of the project over the coming years.

“Saġġar has created a lot of awareness on the well-being of the environment that surrounds us, and this resonates very well with our Betssonites. So, whereas we usually give a small gift to each employee during Christmas time, we decided to instead donate one tree on behalf of each and every one of our 1,650 Betssonites across the globe,” said Svensson.

The Saġġar projects aim to plant one million trees on both public and private land over the next decade, using trees and shrubs from the local flora species, so to ensure long-term sustainability.

“We were really happy to get the support of the largest gaming company on the island. Through this partnership, Betsson Group is leading the way in the protection of Malta’s environment,” said Mercieca.

“Winning the trust of a multinational company such as BetssonGroup truly means the world to us and we hope that it will inspire other companies to become partners of Saġġar.”
