Updated at 4.12pm: It has been clarified that the pigeon was intentionally dyed by a magician who was doing a show in the area.

A fluorescent pink pigeon was spotted chilling in Baħar iċ-Cagħaq earlier today.

The Maltese woman who encountered the bird couldn’t believe her eyes this morning when she saw the pigeon casually sitting on a bench.

“Have you ever seen a pink pigeon?” she humorously told Lovin Malta upon sending the photos and the videos of the creature.

While this one was not real, pink pigeons do exist, with the breed being called Nesoenas Mayeri, which is native to the island of Mauritius in East Africa.

It is said that only around 500 are left of it around the world, after almost going completely extinct in the 1990s.

Have you ever spotted a pink pigeon before?
