Caesar the hedgehog had already made progress in his recovery journey after he was found in a sorry state by Malta’s Wildlife Rescue Team – and he’s now he’s been green-lit to be released to the wild again.

The distressed hedgehog was first found in a box on a shop’s doorstep, before being passed on to his rescue team.

“Another amazing transformation,” the Wildlife Rescue Team celebrated in a post on social media.

“Caesar came to us on 2nd July when he was found in a box on a shop doorstep. He was in a very sorry state, with most of his quills missing due to a skin infection,” it detailed.

“It’s taken four months for Caesar to fully heal, but look at him now. He’s as good as new and was released this evening!”

The team uploaded a video of Caesar being released back into his natural habitat, as the hedgehog happily waddled off into the night.

On the Maltese islands, one can find the Algerian hedgehog, being one of the most beloved species the local fauna is blessed with.

Unfortunately, hedgehogs can often be found in vulnerable positions, and this could be due to many reasons, such as losing their mother, having an infestation of some kind, or suffering from an injury.

If you encounter a hedgehog that you think needs help, it’s essential to call the Wildlife Rescue Team on 99999505
