Watch: Illegal Works Persist At Xemxija Site Overlooking Mistra Despite Court Order

Illegal works continue to persist in a site situated along the Xemxija Ridge overlooking the pristine bay of Mistra, despite a recent court order to reassess the permit.
Back in May, the Appeals Court took the decision to scrap the permit for the disputed tower development along Xemxija Ridge, with Chief Justice Mark Chetcuti ordering the Environment and Planning Tribunal to once again reassess the permit.
However, in footage shared with Lovin Malta, workers can be seen executing the excavation in the hot summer sun.
One of the videos shared was captured earlier this morning, with a resident informing Lovin Malta that the works have been ongoing since the beginning of June, despite the negative reactions from residents and the court case.
Machinery and workers have continued to bulldoze over the area, as part of the controversial project to build a 12-storey, 744-apartment complex on the ridge.
The project would completely alter the nature of the area, as well as introducing a massive eyesore which would be visible from Mistra and way beyond.
The area has long been facing this dispute after a permit that was approved back in 2013 was rendered as wrong by the Ombudsman.
Then, in 2018, the developer once again applied to renew the permit, leading to residents appealing the permit and later on filing a court case to ensure that the area is not developed.
Recently, residents had also filed a parliamentary petition after excavation works started at the site before the permit was granted.
