Moviment Graffitti activist Andre Callus has stressed that it’s not fair that Maltese citizens continue to be bulldozed over by big projects and developers.

In the latest video with Lovin Malta, ahead of this Saturday’s national environmental protest in Valletta, Callus stressed that we need to stop and change route now as a country, especially when it comes to the planning system in place.

“We have an entire planning system, but it’s only there to make sure that certain people make as much money as they possibly can,” Callus said.

“It’s not fair that citizens are bulldozed over, simply because there is someone behind the scenes who has the power and the money and the influence to do whatever he wants,” he stressed.

“If we’re going to continue doing what we’re doing within the environmental and planning sector, we’re heading straight into a brick wall,” he said.

“We need to stop and change the route now – If the political direction is not going to change, we’re not going to solve anything.”

Callus also remarked how as activists, they believe there’s great power in numbers, calling upon people to join tomorrow’s protest. Meanwhile, over 250 University academics and over 80 local organisations have pledged their support to the protest.

The protest will kick off in Valletta at 10.30am next to the Triton Fountain and will continue until 12pm.

“History has always shown us, along with recent cases, that where there’s unity, there’s power, and where people create pressure, they have a big chance of winning,” he assured.

Meanwhile, here are four reasons why you should attend tomorrow’s protest – according to Moviment Graffitti.
